Alexander Bauhart is an accomplished and admired harpsichordist and organist born in Montréal, Québec, who was established in New England from 1993 to 2008. He performs regularly as a soloist, chamber music director and continuo player in the United States, Canada and Europe, and is currently employed as Director of Music at Saint Baranabas Anglican Church in Montréal.
While a young student pursuing secondary and CEGEP degrees, Mr. Bauhart was already a respected organist at Saint Antoine Cathedral in Longeueil. Before embarking on advanced studies he traveled extensively, and in 1980 he was both singer and dancer in the renowned national ensemble Mazowsze in Poland. Thus began his lifelong love and pursuit of folk dance and ethnomusicology. While attending summer classes in Vienna in 1981 he was offered the role of Papageno in a production of Magic Flute at the Mozarteum Sommer Schule in Salzburg.
In Montréal, his early teachers included Geneviève Soly, Mireille Lagacé, and the world renowned organist Bernard Lagacé. After receiving formation in choral conducting under Christopher Jackson at Concordia University, he founded the Montréal based professional madrigal ensemble I Madrigali.
Mr. Bauhart was granted a merit scholarship from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he studied with John Gibbons. He subsequently attended Yale University School of Music, where he was the pupil of Professor Richard Rephann. Working at the Yale Collection of Musical Instruments as Curatorial Assistant allowed him to pursue research in the field of harpsichord history and restoration.
While Minister of Music, Organist and Choirmaster at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Bristol, Rhode Island from 2000 - 2008, he founded and served as artistic director of Music at St. Michael’s, a regionally acclaimed music series. He also founded and directed Ensemble Monte Speranza a baroque ensemble utilizing historically informed performance practice on historical instruments.
Mr Bauhart has performed with noted international musicians including the gambist Joelle Morton, and the world renowned violinist Jean Lamon, director of TafelMusik. He recently had the honor of assisting Christopher Hogwood with transcriptions of Charles Burney’s notes on German Music.
Besides research in ethnomusicology, past and present, Mr. Bauhart is currently working on the publication of his Yale thesis on the Twelve Polonaises of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, an article on the state of the harpsichord in the new millennium, and the publication of the complete works of Johannes Trier and Johann Kitsch, pupils of J. S. Bach.

- Woods Chandler Memorial Award for an Outstanding Organist (Connecticut, 1998)
- FCAR Scholarship for Excellence in Research (Government of Québec, 1997-1999)
- Medal of Achievement for his contribution to the propagation of the Polish Popular Arts (Minister of Culture of Poland, 1981 )
